Match day 1 was in for a cracker with a
fierce contest between second and third place of the previous 16/17 campaigh.
Cornered Tigers were sent in to bat after new captain Safeer Butt of Lahore
Tigers opted to make use of the shiny new ball.
Cornered Tigers started off slowly but resilient putting on 37 runs for the first partnership. Only for the following two partnerships putting on just 53 between them thanks to some brilliant bowling and fielding from some of Lahore Tigers old hawks. Sajjad Butt started off the comeback with a teriffic double wicket over with Zeshan Butt chipping with a brilliant minus over. The fourth pair tried to fix the downfall and putting on a decent 36 to bring the team score to 126 and leaving the final pair to finish the dealings. However due to a strong bowling quartet the Tigers restricted them to just 21 runs leaving the Cornered Tigers to defend 147. Pick of the bowlers for Lahore Tigers was Sajjad Butt with 3 for 7 while Tahir Afridi was the main batsment for the Cornered tigers with 25 runs.
Lahore Tigers started in similar fashion
putting on 35 runs with the first pair and the second paid hitting well
structed 48 with the Lahore Tigers at this stage sitting handsomely on 83 runs.
However, the Cornered Tigers were not done yet and with some magnificent
bowling and fielding they put the pressure back on Lahore Tigers restricting
the third pair to just 7 runs. However in came new siging Mohammed Waqar and
skipper Safeer Butt who demolished the bowlers to all parts and put on a mamoth
89 run partnership without being dismissed and surpassing the target, giving
the final pair 0 pressure. The final partnership scored 29 runs to take the
team total to 208 runs and thus winning by 62 runs.
The Man of the Match of this well contested
match was skipper of the Lahore Tigers Safeer Butt for his 36 runs with the bat
off 12 balls and bowling figures of 3 for -1.
