The opening game of Week 2 featured two of the losing teams from the opening week. Nabeel Ahmed’s Punjabi Lions went face to face with Awais Butt’s Kashmiri Panthers. Nabeel Ahmed winning the toss and choosing to bowl with the new ball. Kashmiri Panthers looked to be cruising after making 122 with the first 3 partnerships but were pegged back by some beautiful bowling by the Punjabi Lions to the fourth pair who only managed 5 between them. Kashmiri Panthers posted a score of 141.
Tayab Ilyas top scored for the Panthers with 21 and Lewis Thompson was pick of the bowlers with 4-3. In reply Punjabi Lions looked to be in trouble after only managing 17 runs in the first partnership but brought it back with some clever batting and had surpassed the target in the 18th over so comfortably won by 38 runs to pick up their first win in the 2016 campaign. Nabeel Ahmed was pick off the batsmen for Punjabi Lions scoring 32 runs including two 7’s whereas Tayab Ilyas was the star performer for the Panthers picking up 2-16. Man of the Match goes to Nabeel Ahmed for scoring 32 runs and bowling figures of 3 for -6.
Big Bite Chesham VS Lahore Tigers
The game many had been waiting for with both sides offering some fierce exchanges during the build-up to the game. Friends off the pitch but enemies on. Big Bite led by Wajid Hussain went up against the big winners of Gameweek 1 the Lahore Tigers led by captain Tanvir Butt. Big Bite had been sent in to bat and looked to be in trouble from the first partnership who did not manage to score and had a partnership of -3 due to some superb bowling from the Tigers.
However Big Bite seemed to slowly stack up some runs and looked to be posting a decent enough score to defend with a strong bowling line-up but only managed 128 at the close of the innings. Adris Ahmed once again pick of the batting for Big Bite scoring 28 and Toqeer Butt was the pick of the bowling with a superb spell of 5 for -11. In reply Lahore Tigers started of shaky in the first 2 overs losing some quick wickets but brought it back in the last 2 overs.
From here on the partnerships just seemed to get better and better and finishing comfortable winners for the second game running winning by an astonishing 85 runs. No one would have thought that. Safeer Butt was pick of the batsmen scoring a decent 27 from 10 balls including two 7’s. Wasim Hussain was pick of the bowlers picking up 3-5. Once again Man of the Match was Toqeer Butt mainly for his impressive bowling of 5 for -11 but only 6 with the bat. Lahore Tigers are standing healthy at the top of the table being the only unbeaten team and with a very healthy net run rate.
London Lions VS Chesham Mobiles
The final game of Gameweek 2 featured Umer Kayani’s London Lions go up against Zahid Mahmood’s much changed Chesham Mobiles side. A very close encounter with a nail biting finish a match you couldn’t take your eyes off. London Lions chose to bat first and looked like it was the right choice after starting off impressively and reaching 172 by the end of the 4th partnership and looked set to pass the 200 mark.
But with some brilliant bowling and not so great batting London Lions only ended up on 155 meaning a -17 partnership by the last partnership of London Lions who must have been disappointed with the end target but confident to be able to defend this. Zaheem Wajid the pick of the batsmen for London Lions scoring an explosive 27. Muhammad Fayyaz using his experience and class was pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets for -5.
In reply Chesham Mobiles started off slow reaching 54 off the first two partnerships. But slowly came back on track reaching 138 at the end of the fourth partnership. Needing only 18 to surplus the target Chesham Mobiles looked to be on track after being on 167 with one over to go but made hard work of it after an impressive last over by Zaheem Wajid of the London Lions who bought it close but not good enough after Chesham Mobiles came out eventual winners by one run.
Naeem was the pick of the batsmen for Chesham Mobiles with a score of 22 and Zaheem Wajid also pick of the bowling for London Lions with figures of 3 for -14. Man of the Match and stand out performer both with bat and ball was Zaheem Wajid of London Lions scoring 27 and bowling figures of 3 for -14.
