In the final game week of the first round, the opening game was between Cornered Tigers and Kashmiri Panthers. Ahtsham Hussain won the toss for the Cornered Tigers against a make shift Kashmiri Panthers side.
As imagined, the Kashmiri
Panthers struggled to get out of the blocks and struggling to put runs on the
board putting just 8, 6 and -5 runs on between the first, second and third
partnerships respectively. Taking the score to 9 runs after 12 overs. The fourth
partnership did however try and put up a fight to put on a respectable fighting
chance scoring 44 runs snd taking the score to 53 with the final pair to help
cause some immense. However, due to some brilliant bowling and last ball double
wicket Kashmiri Panthers managed -13 taking the score back down to 40 runs.
Stand in skipper Awais Butt scored 32 runs off 22 balls and Ahsan Sajjad was
stand out bowler for Cornered Tigers with bowling figures of 5 for -22.
In reply, Cornered Tigers as
expected came quick out of the blocks and surpassing the target in the 5th
over of the innings. The first two partnerships took the score to 99 runs and well
on the way to scoring a massive total. The following two partnerships also
managed huge totals with 47 and 72 respectively and taking the score to 218
runs. The final pair carried on from where the previous partnerships left off
putting on 68 runs and taking the score to 286 runs and thus setting a highest
team score of the season. Ahtsham Hussain was top scorer with 40 runs off just
9 balls with a strike rate in excess of 400, Waqar was yet again pick of the
bowlers for Kashmiri Panthers with 3 for 44.
Cornered Tigers won by a
mammoth 246 runs margin and Man of the Match was young gun Ahsan Sajjad for
Cornered Tigers for scoring 22 runs and bowling figures of 5 for -22.
The toss between the top 2 ranked teams in the Indoor Leagues was won by Lahore Tigers who opted to bowl first and make use of the new ball.
Lahore Tigers started off
well taking 5 wickets and conceding just 27 runs in the first pairing courtesy
of Tanvir Butt. However, the second pair containing new recruit Zia Mohammed
managed to put on 41 runs taking the score to 68 runs. Big Bite carried on
building a strong score after the third pair put on 43 runs and taking the
score to 111. But from here on it was Lahore Tigers time who managed to
restrict the final 2 pairs to just 4 runs and restricting the Big Bite team
total to just 115 runs who at one stage looked to score close to 200 runs. Zia
Mohammed was pick of the batsmen’s for scoring 18 runs and Safeer Butt was pick
of the bowlers with 4 for -2.
Chasing 116 to win Lahore
Tigers started off slowly due to some serious pace bowling from Zia Mohammed
but still were on the front foot scoring 51 runs and putting the team almost
half way there. The following partnership struggled to dent the scorecard much
yet again due to Zia Mohammed who bowled a -14 over clean bowling the batsmen’s
on 3 occasions. The following 2 partnerships managed to score 93 runs between
them and scoring 159 runs taking them past the required target. The final pair
also contributed with a decent 60 runs taking the score to 219 runs and helping
with the run rate deficit. Zeeshan Butt was pick of the batsmen’s with 33 runs
off 10 balls and spearhead pace bowler Zia Mohammed was pick of the bowlers for
Big Bite with 4 for -10.
Lahore Tigers came out
victorious by 104 runs and maintaining their 100% record after the first round.
Man of the Match was Lahore Tiger’s skipper Safeer Butt for his 33 runs off 16
balls and 4 for -2 runs with the ball.
